With the roster construction nearly complete, the 2025-26 Maryland men's basketball schedule is beginning to take shape as head coach Buzz Williams prepares for year one in College Park. And Buzz will open in style.
The program announced that Maryland men's basketball will open the 2025-26 season vs. Coppin State at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, marking the program's first appearance in Charm City since facing Loyola (Chicago) in 2018-19.
"The Hall of Fame Series will be a tremendous way to open the upcoming season, and it is going to be special for the passionate basketball fans of Baltimore," said head coach Buzz Williams via release. "I believe the last time the University of Maryland Men's Basketball team played in Baltimore was 2018, so it will be a good opportunity to get the Terps back in a city with such great basketball history."
Maryland's season-opener marks one of two games set in Baltimore with Towson and Loyola set to square off in the Hall of Fame Series. Maryland lost the first matchup between the teams back on Dec. 12, 1989 before posting double-digit wins against the Eagles in both 2022 and 2023.
"Returning to Baltimore for a second year demonstrates the growing excitement around the Hall of Fame Series and the region's passion for college basketball," said Melissa Meacham-Grossman, President of Position Sports. "With Maryland headlining alongside respected local programs like Coppin State, Towson, and Loyola, this event highlights the incredible basketball tradition in and around Baltimore. It's an honor to partner with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame to bring these matchups back to the world-class CFG Bank Arena."
The Big Ten previously announced Maryland will play home-and-home series with Illinois, Iowa and Rutgers. Maryland will also host Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, and Washington at home only, while traveling to Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, UCLA, USC, and Wisconsin.
