Maryland Makes Top Four for Local Four-Star

After making the top six last month, Maryland has made the next cut for an in-state target.

Good Counsel four-star defensive end Neeo Avery announced a top four of Kentucky, Maryland, Ole Miss and Oregon on Tuesday after making trips to each school this year.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound athlete kicked off his official visits with a trip to Maryland the first weekend of June followed by visits to Ole Miss then Kentucky. Avery has shown proactiveness to visit College Park during the Terps’ pursuit even dating back to last summer as outside linebacker James Thomas is now running point in his recruitment. Kentucky has familiarity in his recruitment with former Falcons like Josh Paschal and Naasir Watkins landing in Lexington, while Oregon hosted Avery back in May with the Ducks in hot pursuit. Ole Miss also hosted Avery for an official visit the weekend of June 10.

The one-time quarterback and athlete target, Avery made the move to defensive line and flourished last fall as he entrenched himself among the area’s top prospects and elevated him to consensus four-star status. Heading into his senior season, Avery is expected to primarily play along the defensive line with 2024 quarterback Frankie Weaver taking over as the next starting quarterback.

Avery is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the 264th-best prospect in the nation.
