Maryland makes the top group for Tennessee QB ahead of official visit

Head coach Mike Locksley and Maryland football kicked off its second recruiting weekend with a pair of official visits beginning Thursday and with a larger group headed to College Park next weekend, one target set to arrive included the Terps inside his top group.

Ravenwood (TN) three-star quarterback Femi Babalola, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback, included Maryland alongside Arizona, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech with a commitment date set for June 30th.

Babalola is taking his official visit to Boston College before returning to College Park for his official visit beginning Thursday, June 12 and NC State in the mix for a return visit.

Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and coordinator of player have spearheaded efforts for Maryland after jumping into the mix for Babalola, becoming the lone Big Ten school to jump into the picture, after Babalola earned MVP honors at The Opening regional camp earlier in the spring. That led the Tennessee standout to head to College Park for an unofficial visit in mid-April where he got his first glimpse into the program and offensive playbook.

“I got a chance to watch practice, get a good look at the offense and how they operate. I was in meetings with the quarterbacks to get a chance to see everything so I fit with what they do, their scheme. I like how they operate,” he told IBG.

“It was about getting to know him, answer any questions I may have had and really just who he is and what he’s about. Had a good talk with him. He told me about who he coached, his whole spiel and his plan for developing me so we really went into all of that.”

Babalola threw for over 1,100 yards and totaled 11 touchdowns to lead Ravenwood to a 13-1 finish and 6A state semifinals appearance before being named regional co-MVP honors.

Femi Babalola is rated a three-star and 86 overall by On3, checking in as the nation’s 59th-best quarterback in the 2026 cycle.
