Former Wake Forest quarterback Billy Edwards has announced his transfer to Maryland, filling a key void in Maryland’s 2022 quarterback room.
Edwards, the younger brother of Terps’ GA Kyle Edwards, entered the portal in late April and visited Maryland during the first week of May as the staff scoured the portal to find an experienced quarterback behind veteran Taulia Tagovailoa. While new to the program, an added bonus is that Edwards provides the room is ample familiarity with the Terps’ playbook.
Edwards joins 2022 signees Jayden Sauray and Cam Edge to round out the scholarship quarterback room under offensive coordinator Dan Enos.
Edwards signed with Wake Forest as a three-star prospect out of Lake Braddock (VA), but did not suit up during the shortened 2020 season. After not registering a stat in the 2021 season, Edwards joins the program with four years of eligibility as the staff will now have multiple young signal callers to learn behind Taulia.
During his final two seasons of high school, Edwards threw for over 5,000 yards and 59 touchdowns to go along with 750 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Edwards finished his junior season with 2,677 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, earning All-State honorable mention along with First Team All District and First Team All Region honors.
Inside the Black & Gold subscribers were first to learn about the incoming transfer two weeks ago. Maryland now has four vacant scholarships ahead of the 2022 season.
