Maryland football WR Josiah Teasley battling legal matters

Maryland football freshman wide receiver Josiah Teasley is the latest inside the program battling an ongoing legal matter.

"We are aware of the situation. Josiah Teasley will not participate in games until this matter is resolved," a team spokesperson told IBG.

After being found guilty of second degree assault, Teasley was sentenced to 18 months supervised probation beginning July 31, 2026, then charged again on Aug. 8 for violating his protective order for distributing intimate/sexual image and harassment. The freshman is also currently appealing his assault conviction stemming from an incident on Dec. 29, 2025. Court documents show Teasley was texting his ex-girlfriend nude pictures of her, pictures that documents say were taken without consent.

The ex-girlfriend alleges she caught Teasley cheating on Dec. 29 before court documents revealed the freshman wide receiver "proceeded to punch me in the face, throw me to the ground, choked me while slamming my head to the ground."

Teasley is also currently represented by Douglas Gansler, who told the Baltimore Sun that Ring-camera footage disputes the alleged story.

“Not only does he deny it, but to go further, he didn’t do any of that,” Gansler told The Sun. “There’s video showing that he in fact did not do any of that.”

Gansler also represented cornerback Dontay Joyner, who re-joined Maryland football's program this week less than one month after head coach Mike Locksley announced the two sides mutually parted ways following his offseason arrest. Joyner spent nearly one month in jail despite being held on misdemeanor charges for threatening to shoot his ex-girlfriend.

Maryland is set to open the 2026 regular season at home vs. Hampton on Saturday, Sept. 5 with kickoff set for 8 PM.
