Maryland football will look to build on last weekend’s momentum when they head to Minnesota this weekend, a big potential game as the Terps work toward at least two more wins to secure bowl eligibility for the fourth consecutive season.
Â
Maryland has become a less frequent pick in 2024 bowl projections in recent weeks, though the USC win renewed optimism for the odds of getting the sixth win, and ESPN made a consensus pick for the Terps to square off against a Big 12 team at the end of the year.
Â
Both Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach projected Maryland to face Baylor in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Jan. 1 at 4 PM. It’d mark the first matchup between the two teams since 1956, while Baylor sits at 3-4 (1-3) after defeating Texas Tech in their last game.
Â
USA Today, meanwhile, projected Maryland to face Oklahoma State in the Rate Bowl on Dec. 26, while Sports Illustrated projected Maryland to face Toledo in the Detroit Bowl on the same day.
Â
With road games against a pair of top-five teams in Oregon and Penn State still left on the schedule, Maryland will look to secure its first win in Minneapolis since 2017 as the home team has won each of the last four matchups. Maryland remains a 4.5-point underdog this weekend as ESPN’s matchup predictor gives the Terps a 38.6% chance of pulling out the win this weekend, the third-highest odds heading into the rest of the Terps’ season behind the Rutgers (67.8%) and Iowa (41.7%).
Â
Following the Minnesota game, Maryland will hit their second and final bye week of the season next weekend before facing top-ranked Oregon on Nov. 9.
