Maryland football makes change to offensive staff ahead of 2026

Maryland football announced Kyle Schmitt as a new position coach last month, and they'll now have a new offensive coordinator in 2026 with a shift to the offensive staff ahead of spring ball.

Former quarterback Clint Trickett, who was previously announced as the new quarterbacks coach at Arkansas in mid-December, is expected to join the Maryland football staff as offensive coordinator where he is now able to step into an elevated role. Pep Hamilton, who previously served as offensive coordinator, will remain with the program and serve in a senior advisor role where he'll be able to work closer with the quarterback room led by Malik Washington. The move was also reported on Tuesday morning.

This marks the third time that Trickett has served as an offensive coordinator, including first at the Power Four level, after serving in the same role at Jacksonville State in 2025 and Marshall in 2023. He began his coaching career at East Mississippi Community College where he was also featured in Netflix's show, Last Chance U.

Trickett also marks a familiar name given the former Florida State quarterback transferred to West Virginia where he was part of a storied rivalry with Maryland, leading the Mountaineers to a 40-37 win in College Park during the 2014 season. He'll now look to make it up to Maryland fans by unlocking a passing attack led by the face of the program in Malik Washington.

The move also comes after Ted White, who previously served as assistant quarterbacks coach, was announced as the new head coach at Howard where he also brought Maryland staffers Tim Morris and Marcus Thomas with him.
