Maryland football adds JuCo wide receiver to 2026 room

Maryland football has started officially announcing its new transfer additions with spring ball nearly one month away, including the addition of another wide receiver.

Former JuCo wide receiver Ejani Shakir was announced by the program on Tuesday, giving Maryland football its third wideout added this offseason alongside Na'eem Gladding out of Old Dominion and Chris Durr Jr. out of Wyoming.

Shakir, a 6-foot, 190-pound prospect, is also the second target for Maryland who now joins the program after drawing interest from the staff as a high school prospect with the former three-star prospect out of Winslow Township (NJ) in attendance for spring ball back in 2023 with former assistant Henry Baker spearheading assistants.

Shakir joins the program after two seasons at Indianapolis Community College where he posted 879 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 57 catches, while also adding nearly 500 yards on 19 kirk returns over two seasons. He ended his time at Indy CC named a First Team All-KJCCC selection at wide receiver and Second Team All-KJCCC as a returner.

He also joins the program from familiar territory given head coach Mike Locksley inked four out of Indy CC in the early years of his tenure at Maryland after Ami Finau, Mosiah Nasili-Kite and Johari Branch stepped into impact roles to end their college careers.

While Shakir adds depth to the position, Maryland will look to turn to Gladding and Durr as key pieces in the 2026 passing attack alongside returning wideouts Kaleb Webb and Ryan Manning, along with a pair of veterans in Dorian Fleming and Preston Howard expected to be experienced tight ends to round out the room.
