Maryland football lands third RB commit in 2027 class

Months after officially visiting Maryland, Maryland football now has another running back commit in the fold.

Sumter (SC) three-star Franklin Richardson has committed to Maryland over Duke and Virginia. Maryland was the last school to Richardson, a 6-foot-2, 220 pound running back, for an official visit the weekend of June 19. Though he plays quarterback in high school, Richardson arrives as the third running back pledge in the 2027 class alongside TJ Grant and Mekhi Graham, who are expected to visit College Park this weekend.

Assistant Andre Powell led the way with the three-star athlete after initiating contact in May while his June visit marked his first trip to campus with running back DJ Samuels also making an impression on the official visit. Richardson intends to major in pyschology in College Park with plans to enroll in college in January.

“I think I liked it because we’re closer in age. I’ll be in his position pretty soon so he can tell me what it is, the transition, what I need to do, stuff like that,” Richardson told IBG. “It was really more than I thought it would be. The main thing I liked there was the relationship between the players and the coaches, that popped out a lot. All the coaching staff was very helpful. The players were helpful too with any questions that I had.”

Maryland now has 22 commits in the 2027 class with four-stars Kenaz Sulilvan and Myles McAfee leading the way with both regional commits on campus for the week three non-conference finale.
