Maryland football now has a third pledge out of Tennessee this cycle.
Cannon County (Tn.) edge rusher Zeke Walkup has gone public with his commitment after announcing his commitment to Maryland one week after his official visit. Walkup, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound lineman, committed to Maryland over Western Kentucky, Toledo and Liberty among others with the staff evaluating him through the spring.
Walkup now joins linebacker Shelvy 'Duke' Clark and defensive lineman Jayden Agberodiola, while three-star edge rusher Dallas Pauldo was among the visitors in College Park during the final official visit weekend.
Assistant Randy Starks led the way while defensive coordinator Ted Monachino made the trip to his school two weeks after Maryland became the first Power Four offer. That set the stage for a finalized official visit, which materialized the weekend of June 11 after bouncing around a few dates in June. Yet it still remained a matter of time until the Terps would be able to add to its class with Walkup admitting the visit surpassed his expectations.
"I had such a great time with them, it was great. I was in two different meetings and I got a chance to talk to coach Locks too. It's different, different type of defense than I'm used to. They don't know exactly what spot, either as a big [defensive] end or a JACK. I think it's cool because when I get up there just based on how I develop during my spring and freshman year," Walkup told IBG.
Walkup is working on finalizing early enrollment and graduate high school in December. Walkup, who also plays basketball at Cannon County, registered 79 total tackles and 24 TFLs as a junior.
