Maryland fall & winter sports report: men's soccer prepares for quarterfinals

Men’s Soccer

4th-ranked Maryland men’s soccer heads to the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating 13th-ranked UConn 3-0. The Terps enter their 13th quarterfinal under head coach Sasho Cirovski and their 18th quarterfinal overall.

During the first half, senior Albi Ndrenika found the net on an assist from freshman Rocket Ritarita, and shortly after, Ritarita added another goal. A final goal in the second half secured Maryland’s move to the Elite Eight.

The Terps limited the Huskies to just five shots while Maryland shot 23 times.

"Our goal today was to get better defensively from the last game, and today, you saw a team that was extremely committed to defending, which is what you need in elimination games," said Cirovski.

Maryland is the highest-ranked team in the NCAA Tournament and could be the first 4th-ranked seed to win the College Cup.

The Terps will go head-to-head with Washington on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.

Women’s Basketball

Before entering Big Ten conference play, 7th-ranked Maryland basketball secured a 92-44 victory over Mount St. Mary’s. This marks the third time the Terps will start Big Ten conference play undefeated since 2014.

Maryland held the lead throughout all four quarters, and five different Terps scored in the double digits. Junior Oluchi Okananwa led with 17 points.

"The biggest thing we're learning is how to push and fight through adversity. I'm really excited to take what we've learned, especially today, and take it over into conference play," said Okananwa.

Freshman Rainey Welson also added to the board as she recorded a career high of eight points.

Maryland will head on the road to face Minnesota on Dec. 7 for their first conference game of the season, with tipoff at 7 PM.

The program did announce one hit to the Terps' rotation with sophomore Ava McKennie, younger sister of former Maryland OL Ellis McKennie, sidelined for the remaineder of the 2025-26 season due a torn ACL. McKennie suffered the injury vs. Hofstra, her best game of the season with a pair of threes.

Volleyball

Maryland Volleyball was unable to snap its losing streak in the last game of the season, falling to Oregon 3-0 and suffering its 13th consecutive loss.

Two Terps were honored for Senior Day, Ally Williams and Ajack Malual. Malual had seven kills, and Williams picked up three digs.

Malual also ended the season with 372 total kills and is ranked ninth in the Big Ten in serve/pass.

Junior Eva Rohrbach and sophomore Duru Gökçen are both ranked in the top 10 for most blocks this season.

Maryland finished the season with a record of 8-22 overall and 1-19 in the Big Ten.
