Maryland expected to hire Josh Gattis for co-offensive coordinator

The offensive side of the ball appears set for Maryland. Former Michigan and Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis is expected to fill the vacancy as co-offensive coordinator for Maryland. This time, it’s real. Gattis nearly became Maryland’s offensive coordinator back in 2019 after Mike Locksley took over as head coach of the program, but that fell through after Gattis opted for Michigan instead. After three seasons and the Broyles Award in his final season with the Wolverines, Gattis went south to become the offensive coordinator at Miami (FL) in year one under Mario Cristobal. Gattis and the Canes split in late January and roughly two weeks after being spotted in College Park, he’ll now land at Maryland. Gattis and Locksley worked together at Alabama and though the two have had a war of words since their days in Tuscaloosa, they’ve buried the hatchet to fill out the offensive staff. Gattis will also get a chance to work with the quarterbacks, though it’s expected that Mike Locksley also takes on an active role in the room. The defensive side of the ball has not been publicly announced, though sources told IBG earlier this week that the position is nearly filled. The expected addition of Gattis, along with Charlie Strong to Alabama, was reported by IBG on Tuesday. Maryland will begin spring practice on March 29.
