Maryland was no match for Iowa in Thursday night’s rematch as the Terps were embarrassed at home in a 110-87 loss.

Maryland opened the game’s scoring with a three from Donta Scott, but it would be the last time the Terps would hold a lead the rest of the way as Iowa gradually ran built their lead behind red-hot perimeter shooting. Hawkeye guard Jordan Bohannon was a big reason why as he was lights out from deep, leading Iowa’s perimeter shooting as the team shot 62.5% from the perimeter through the first-half. Keegan Murray remained efficient on the offensive end all night, but the Hawkeyes were able to gradually add to their lead thanks to a healthy advantage on the glass.

Hakim Hart was one ray of sunshine for the Terps on a bleak night as he finished with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, one of four Terps in double figures on the night. Fatts Russell also finished with a team-high 20 points and six assists in the loss but still set a career milestone.

One positive takeaway was Fatts Russell recording his 500th career assist midway through the first-half after Russell found Xavier Green in the corner for a three. Russell would then score the first points for the Terps in the second-half to record his 1,901st career point. But seemingly each time Maryland chipped into Iowa’s lead, the Hawkeyes would answer with a deflating three-pointer to quiet a rather empty Xfinity Center. Iowa first extended their lead to double-digits after Keegan Murray got to the rim with four minutes left in the first-half, forcing Maryland interim head coach Danny Manning to call a 30-second timeout with four minutes remaining. But it wouldn’t reverse the course for the Terps as Iowa took a 57-41 lead into halftime.

It wouldn’t get much better in the second half as Iowa would quickly take control. After consecutive buckets from Fatts Russell and Hakim Hart, Iowa went on an 18-0 run over the next six minutes and would stretch the lead to as many as 37 points in the second half. Maryland emptied the bench with five minutes remaining and were able to slightly trim the margin as Marcus Dockery and Ian Martinez both finished in double-figures, but fell yet again at home as Maryland dropped to 11-13 (3-10) this season.

Next: Maryland plays at Purdue on Sunday, February 13. Tipoff is set for 1 PM on CBS Sports.
