Maryland becomes first Power Five offer for local lineman

Maryland became the first Power Five offer for St. Mary’s (MD) offensive tackle Davon Watkins after the 6-foot-5 lineman made his way to campus for Saturday’s Big Man camp. Watkins tells IBG he picked up the offer at tackle, but Saturday’s news wasn’t something that the Maryland native expected to come to fruition. https://twitter.com/DavonWatkins77/status/1665049978694250498 “They just wanted me to come down. I didn’t know I was going to pick up the offer,” Watkins told IBG. “I talked to coach and he said that he liked how I’m quick on my feet. I can recover well. He told me some parts that I can work on as well, so there’s always room for some improvement.” Watkins made his way to campus last fall to visit for both the Ohio State and Rutgers games but Saturday marked “really my first time being in there. Everything looked really nice.” Temple became the first offer for Watkins back in late February as Kent State, New Hampshire, Monmouth, Toledo and Akron have offered since. Watkins is looking ahead to camps at James Madison, Monmouth and Wake Forest later in June, but he could return to College Park for an extended visit in the fall. “They were talking about getting me up again this summer then during the season, maybe an official after the season.” Watkins is not yet rated by On3.
