Maryland beats Georgetown, lands 2025 top-50 Darius Adams

Maryland men’s basketball has its first 2025 commit under head coach Buzz Williams in the fold with five-star guard Darius Adams committing days after visiting campus.

Adams, a 6-foot-5 guard, visited Maryland and Georgetown this past weekend with UConn and Tennessee also involved with the former Big East pledge.

“Buzz Williams is known for winning at every different program he goes to. He’s develops guards and has off court relationships with his players," Adams said about why Maryland won out. "Maryland has a great history of basketball and can’t wait to show the fans what I’m going to bring to the table!”

Buzz Williams now has its second McDonald’s All-American selection in as many seasons, though Williams is also still in search of his first high school commit since taking over as head coach at Maryland. Four-star guard Chris Jeffrey, who was previously signed to Maryland, flipped his pledge to Villanova following the coaching change as Adams serves as a potential upgrade in the backcourt. Maryland also has transfer portal commits from David Coit (Kansas), Myles Rice (Indiana), Isaiah Watts (Washington State) and Andre Mills (Texas A&M) with now nine scholarships currently filled.

"Darius is a high-level guard who impacts the game in a variety of ways," La Lumiere coach Pat Holmes told ESPN's Paul Biancardi in the fall. "A true three-level scorer, Darius has the ability to score off the bounce and off the catch. His scoring prowess and shot creation does a great job of setting up his opportunities to facilitate for teammates. Defensively, Darius will compete with the best of them. He has an edge and toughness to his game that translates to every level of basketball, and I think it's why teammates love playing with him."

Adams is rated a five-star and a composite top-20 recruit in the 2025 class.
