Maryland head coach Kevin Willard and the staff are still looking for their first commitment of the 2024 cycle, but they made the cut for one of the nation’s top prospects on Monday afternoon as Boogie Fland trimmed his list of suitors. Fland, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound point guard out of Archbishop Stepinac (NY), has trimmed his list to Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, St. John’s and UConn. Fland has already taken three official visits to North Carolina, Michigan and Indiana while he’s looking to visit Kentucky, Alabama, UConn and Maryland in September. Update: Fland will officially visit Maryland the weekend of September 29, when Maryland football hosts Indiana for family weekend. Maryland assistant Mike Jones has led the pursuit of Fland as the staff has been active on the trail watching their top 2024 and 2025 targets through the July live period, as the five-star guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists at Peach Jam. With Jahmir Young exhausting eligibility following the upcoming season, the need for a point guard in Willard’s second recruiting class remains prevalent after ending its pursuit of Daquan Davis, who committed to Providence, earlier this summer. Fland doesn’t have a set timetable for a decision, but with a fall decision in the works, he becomes the first point guard on the board as the Terps work to address the need. Fland is rated a five-star prospect and a 98 overall by On3, sitting as the seventh-best prospect in the country and the nation’s top point guard. On3 Scouting Report Boogie Fland plays with a New York flair. He has a good handle and is able to shoot the ball from each level. He has deep range off the bounce and will pull up if you give him an inch. He sees the floor well, gets his teammates in evolved, and takes care of the ball, valuing possessions. There is a floater game in there as well, with a one and two dribble pull-up. He will need to continue getting stronger, and he is a solid athlete and has average length. The confidence is sky-high, and the skill set is obvious. He has a comfort playing on the ball or off the ball in a two-guard lineup. Never afraid of the spotlight. Charismatic. – On3’s Jamie Shaw Related Links
