Maryland Baseball to Face Long Island in First-Ever College Park Regional

Postseason play is officially here as Maryland baseball draws a 15-seed and will face Long Island in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. UConn and Wake Forest will also square off in the first-ever College Park Regional. Maryland will host games starting Friday, June 3.

Maryland's matchup against Long Island will be broadcasted on ESPN+ at 7 PM.

Highlighted by Rob Vaughn being named Big Ten Coach of the Year, Maryland drew the most conference honor awards of any Big Ten team led by Chris Alleyne after being named Big Ten Player of the Year. After leading the Big Ten with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs during the season, Alleyne became the first player since 1992 to win conference player of the year and becomes the first since the Terps joined the Big Ten. Starting pitchers Ryan Ramsey and Jason Savacool were also named to the All-Big Ten First Team alongside third baseman Nick Lorusso, second baseman Kevin Keister and infielder Matt Shaw.

Long Island, meanwhile, earned its third NCAA Tournament birth in program history and second under head coach Dan Pirillo. The Sharks defeated Bryant 7-0 on Sunday to win the Northeast Conference Championship and finished the regular season 37-19 after winning seven of their last nine games.

After topping Indiana in 11 innings in the first game of the Big Ten Tournament, Maryland will have a chance to rebound from consecutive losses to Michigan and Indiana to close out their conference tournament run. Outfielder Troy Schreffler Jr. was the lone Terp named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

B1G week for this program. Still a few skeptics of Terp baseball and B1G baseball out there. Time for the Dirty Terps to show off.
