Maryland Athletics announces 'Terp Tank' for 2026 football season, defensive veteran honored

With the 2026 football season nearly one month away and fall camp set to begin on Wednesday, Maryland Athletics announced a new initiative for the fall while a veteran was also honored.

New Fan Experience Announced

At last, Maryland Athletics has officially unveiled its latest upgrade to the fan experience ahead of the 2026 regular season.

The 'Terp Tank' has officially been unveiled, a general admission fan section located in Section 16 at SECU Stadium designed to enhance the atmosphere. Maryland announced that a $193 ticket in the section includes a branded 16 ounce gameday jug that features unlimited, complimentary soft drink refills all season. In addition to a T-shirt and other gear, Maryland also announced a dunk tank featured in the section alongside other 'interactive experiences and nonstop energy,' per release.

The initiative, spearheaded by deputy AD Joe LaBue, is the first model of Maryland's way to build on similar fan experiences across professional sports given LaBue's background as president of Charlotte FC along with over eight years with the Carolina Panthers. The near year-long project marks the latest effort from the new administration led by Jim Smith to improve the gameday atmosphere and experience for fans after Maryland ranked last among Big Ten programs in fan attendance in 2025.

Senior Vet Honored

Senior linebacker Daniel Wingate has drawn several accolades and landed on preseason All-Conference and All-American lists, while Tuesday marked his latest honor after being named to the 2026 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. Wingate was one of 68 players honored, including one of 11 Big Ten players, as the former three-star prospect out of St. Vincent Pallotti looks to build on his NFL Draft profile to become a day one or two selection.

Wingate, one of three players who represented the program at Big Ten Media Day, is coming off a junior season ranked second in the Big Ten and tied for seventh nationally with 62 solo tackles. He also totaled 6.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, one interception and two quarterback hurries. Wingate posted five double-digit tackle performances, including a career-high 14 tackles against NIU.
