Louisiana WR Alex Fontenot sets return visit to Maryland

After visiting for a spring practice last month, Louisiana speedster Alex Fontenot has set his return visit to College Park.

Fontenot, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver out of Alexandria (LA), is set to officially visit Maryland beginning June 11.

The Louisiana native first visited Maryland back on April 18 for a spring practice with a chance to pick up the offer from head coach Mike Locksley, wrapping up the third and final trip on his visit tour. Fontenot flew into Pittsburgh with his family in mid-April to visit the Panthers before driving to West Virginia the following day then Maryland. Assistant Zac Spavital has driven the contact with assistant Latrell Scott chipping in since then, while Fontenot got a chance to sit down with offensive coordinator Clint Trickett where the staff dove into his fit in Maryland’s offense.

“They see me playing Z, outside receiver. I can play inside too but I was really watching everyone,” he told IBG. “I got to see how they coach. I like the offense they run, spread offense, get the ball out quick, a lot of screens, quick game.”

West Virginia is also in the mix for an official visit while Pitt and Old Dominion are among the others to extend offers.

As a junior, Fontenot notched 1,047 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns on 62 catches while being named an All-District selection.
