Local OL impressed with student section, feeling like priority after third visit to Maryland

Maryland played host to a handful of local priority recruits on Saturday afternoon as they watched the Terps dismantle Towson in a 38-6 season-opening win. 2025 Good Counsel (MD) offensive tackle Eidan Buchanan had already been to Maryland for a pair of unofficial visits in the past, but Saturday marked his first gameday experience in College Park. Beyond the on-field result, there was something about the crowd that Buchanan noticed.
“I see the student section was packed. I was looking over there—not an empty seat over there,” Buchanan told IBG. “ was done in about the first quarter. Once the third quarter ended, we left around then. Walked around the stadium a little bit, see what it was like and then headed out.”
Buchanan was among the recruits standing at midfield watching the Terps go through their pregame routine before briefly connecting with head coach Mike Locksley. “We just said what’s up. I talked to coach Braswell for a little bit, then just walking around with one of the guys helping out with recruiting.”
Buchanan also got a chance to meet Loyola Blakefield (MD) offensive lineman Trevor Szymanski, quickly connecting with each other. “It’s just an offensive lineman thing,” Buchanan joked.
Braswell and outside linebacker coach James Thomas have led the way for Maryland early on as the Terps are resonating early.
“I talk to coach the most. He recruits Good Counsel so he’s the guy I feel like I talk to. I have a pretty close relationship with him. He’s a cool guy. I like coach Braswell too. A lot of coaches show you love, but every time I get up there every coach says what’s up. Every coach is welcoming. Feeling like a priority is a good thing,” Buchanan added.
While Maryland is working on finalizing its starting offensive line, fans saw a long list of players line up in the trenches as the unit works to find its groove before conference play. Buchanan, a clear tackle target at 6-foot-8, 325-pounds, was naturally keeping his eye on left tackle DJ Glaze.
“He’s pretty good. doesn’t ask them to get low in their stance. He likes them to play pretty high so they can play out in pass pro which I like, it makes your life a lot easier as a tackle when you get to be in a high stance. At Good Counsel, every play you’re in a three-point.”
Buchanan will look to set up visits to Virginia Tech and Wisconsin this fall, but he already knows he’ll be back in College Park later this season.
“Nothing is for sure yet. I do want to get to Virginia Tech, Wisconsin toward the end of the season but I’m probably going to be back for that Maryland-Penn State game.”
Buchanan shined along the Falcons’ offensive line to help Good Counsel dominate Jones (FL) in a 40-14 win on Friday night, even dancing in between plays.
“We were up by so much, you’ve just got to have fun with it.”
