Maryland is set for homecoming weekend with campus buzzing once again for the football game against Illinois, but basketball head coach Kevin Willard and the staff took advantage of the atmosphere two weekends ago to host several local 2025 and 2026 targets.
’25 Bullis (MD) three-star Adrien Stevens was among the visitors to make it in as the 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard gets another look at the hometown program for the team’s first practice of preseason. Stevens has long been on Maryland’s radar after picking up an offer earlier in the summer, while getting extended one-on-one time with the coaching staff on his first unofficial visit back in early summer. His latest visit gave him a closer look into Willard’s style of play.
“It was good. Actually seeing them practice was really good. It got really competitive. It’s cool to see the hometown kids out there playing,” Stevens told IBG. “The football game was great. Like I was seeing people not from my high school, but seeing people I know from around the area so it was cool having that hometown sense.”
With multiple local targets on campus, Stevens didn’t get the traditional one-on-one time with the coaching staff but along with the pursuit from assistant David Cox, the environment throughout the day remains a key reason why the Terps remain in the picture.
“For a fit, they’re hometown and they’re always going to be high on my list when a decision comes. I just feel like they’re doing a good job staying in touch. I love the attention they show me. That’s going to play a part when I make my decision.”
Marquette was the latest school to host Stevens for an unofficial visit, while he made a trip to Blacksburg to check out Virginia Tech back in early August. For now with the season around the corner, Stevens isn’t planning on taking any more visits until after his junior season.
“I plan on taking a couple officials in the spring, summer.”
Stevens is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the third-best prospect in Maryland.
