Riverdale Baptist (MD) four-star Cortez Harris has kept his recruitment open following his junior season as the 6-foot-2, 220-pound edge rusher eyes additional spring visits. Beyond workouts under head coach Olandis Gary, Harris is spending his time working with local DL trainer Aaron Wallace as he looks to become one of the area’s top pass rushers. “That’s my guy, I’ve been working out with for a while now so just trying to add moves,” Harris told IBG. On the recruiting trail, Maryland is a school that Harris is plenty familiar with as the Terps first began tracking the four-star during his time as an underclassman at DeMatha. After briefly transferring to St. Frances then Riverdale, Maryland's contact never wavered as Harris made his way back to campus last month where he was able to build on his relationship with multiple assistants. “It was great getting up, I love the guys up there. It’s just good people at Maryland. I just came up there to chill, hang out with some of the guys too,” he told IBG. Harris said he was able to meet assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim after the new Terps’ coach made the trek through PG County in January, while assistant Kevin Sumlin has been involved through the fall. But it’s been assistant James Thomas who Harris has built the strongest relationship with. “He’s a great guy. He knows what he’s talking about for sure.” Pitt became the latest school to jump into the mix with verbal offers from Michigan, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Penn State among others. The Aggies could be in line for a spring visit with Harris eyeing a possible trip south, but both Maryland and Penn State are slated to get return visits once spring ball kicks off. After that, it won’t be long until Harris makes his next cut. “I’m going to start narrowing it down soon, probably around April.” Cortez Harris is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the third-best player in Maryland.
