Local '25 lineman talks relationships with Maryland's staff after latest visit

2025 Good Counsel (MD) three-star guard Gavin Crawford has been to Maryland plenty of times throughout his high school career, but the 6-foot-3, 315-pound guard returned to campus last weekend where he was able to enjoy a relaxed environment while getting to know the Maryland coaching staff further. “It was good getting back up there,” Crawford told IBG. “Got a chance to talk to a lot of the coaches. I talked to coach as well but it was just a lot of emphasis on what it’s like to be a player at the University of Maryland.” https://twitter.com/_GavinCrawford/status/1686524699809841152 Outside linebacker coach James Thomas is leading the way as the area recruiter and Crawford admitted the two already have a strong relationship heading into his junior season. “Me and coach JT are real close.” Days later, it was Thomas who reached back out to Crawford when the clock struck midnight on August 1 as coaches could begin directly contacting 2025 prospects. Offensive line coach Brian Braswell has also been able to build an early relationship with Crawford. “He called me the next day so we got a chance to talk a little. It’s so local that I’ve been really going up there a lot since eighth grade so yeah, me and coach Bras are cool. Me and all the coaches, really, are cool. We have a good relationship.” Crawford’s early familiarity with Maryland has made the Terps an early contender with the Terps once again prioritizing Good Counsel in the 2025 class. “I definitely like the local aspect. I like how the program is trending upwards, guys are coming in and they’re performing well so I like to see that.” Donate to TBIAF here and help Maryland football's recruiting efforts Crawford is slated to start at left guard this fall, while 2025 three-star Eidan Buchanan will take over as the starting right tackle for the Falcons. The 6-foot-8 tackle visited West Virginia and Ohio State last week before returning to Maryland. “It was nice to get back up. I talked to a lot of coaches and had a good conversation with coach Locks,” Buchanan added. One month after Good Counsel won Good Counsel’s 7-on-7 tournament, Crawford also made his way back to Morgantown for his first true unofficial visit. “It was pretty broad, general facility tour stuff.” After being named second-team All-WCAC last season, Crawford has his eyes set on becoming a first-team selection. “I think first team is a pretty attainable goal,” he added. “I just want to win with my guys.” Crawford is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 16th-best prospect in Maryland.
