Former Maryland forward Julian Reese will make the cross country trip to begin his professional career after signing with the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted free agent, per ADS Sports Management.
Reese, a three-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection, finished his four-year career with 102 starts in 134 games and joined Len Elmore as the only players in program history to post 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Reese ended his four-year career in College Park with 1,488 career points and 1,015 rebounds, sitting 20th all-time in career scoring and is second all-time for rebounds. His 325 rebounds in 2024-25 rank ninth-most in a single season in program history.
Reese also sits eighth all time with 179 career blocks which, along with 133 assists and 113 steals. His 55.7% career shooting percentage ranks seventh all-time and 37 career double doubles are the fifth most in program history.
Reese was part of the ‘Crab Five’ that anchored Maryland to a Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016, averaging 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds after starting all 36 games in his final season with the program.
Reese is the 16th Terp in program history to earn all-conference honors three times during a career. Though he was among the large wave of fourth-year seniors to enter the transfer portal this offseason amid an ongoing court case on a fifth-year across college sports, Reese stayed with the program despite a coaching change and a pair of sub-.500 seasons.
“I knew what I had here at Maryland and, like you said, the potential we had and just knowing the coaching staff so well and them knowing me and them working with me as well. I feel like that relationship just outcasted everybody else and it just was a no-brainer for me this offseason,” Reese said last season.
Meanwhile, Reese and Queen will be joined by former Maryland guard Selton Miguel in the NBA after signing with the Utah Jazz. Miguel averaged 11.6 points in his lone season with the program, shooting over 42% both from the field and from three. His 75 threes marked the seventh-most makes in a single season in program history.
Reese and Miguel becomes the second and third Terps to head to the NBA this week after Derik Queen landed in New Orleans with the 13th overall pick in Wednesday’s 2025 NBA Draft.
