While star defensive end Maxx Crosby named second-year cornerback Jakorian Bennett as his breakout player selection in 2024, he isn’t the only Terp drawing praise in Las Vegas as DJ Glaze will look to live up to the preseason buzz heading into his first preseason action on Saturday. Bennett and Glaze will share the field with one of their former teammates when Jeshaun Jones takes the field as a Minnesota Viking as he’s made his own case to make the 53-man roster.
After noting Jones as a standout during a pair of practices, AZ Sports wrote that Jones is “a dark horse to make the roster and a near certainty to make the active roster.” The Athletic wrote that Jones “pops almost daily” as he makes his case for a spot on the 53-man roster under a former Maryland assistant.
“While not the largest or the most physically imposing, he’s similar to [Jalen] Nailor in that he transitions smoothly into his routes. He has made contested catches, too. The Vikings have ample receiver depth, so maybe Jones ends up on the practice squad, but he’s a name to keep an eye on because he has a skill set that wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell certainly seeks,” The Athletic wrote.
USA Today highlighted Jones as a player to watch heading into Saturday’s opener vs. the Raiders.
“Jeshaun Jones has been making play after play for the Vikings during training camp. He has shown that his explosiveness carries over from Maryland to the NFL, and it could make him an x-factor in the Vikings’ offense. Seeing how he fits into the offense and if he can take advantage of playing most the second half will be fun to watch as the game unfolds on Saturday.”
Despite signing as an undrafted free agent, Jones signed with the Vikings on a three-year, $2.84-million contract with $225K guaranteed and a $10,000 signing bonus as he competes for WR5/6 heading into week one.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens safety Beau Brade is set to take his first NFL snap on Friday night when the Baltimore Ravens take on the Philadelphia Eagles to open their preseason slate, while Jacob Copeland, Spencer Anderson and Stefon Diggs will all share the field in the Texans-Steelers game at 7 PM EST.
