Jeremiah Sandy ready to lead Damascus against Northwest

Jeremiah Sandy has made a name for himself as a two-sport athlete at Damascus, shining in both football and basketball heading into a pivotal junior season. The 6-foot, 170-pound athlete will shift gears and give wrestling a shot later this school year, but for now, Sandy is focused on leading Damascus into a dominant season on the gridiron. After getting his feet wet playing sparingly as a sophomore, Sandy made consistency a theme in his offseason development. “Definitely helped me prepare for what it's like,” Sandy said of his junior season. “The difference, the change of speed, the thought that goes into it.” It didn’t take long for Sandy to look ahead to building off the early experience. “Every day after practice, the receivers and I would go out. I’d work with QB Lab too, but other than that working out by myself and in the weight room,” Sandy said. “We built an identity for ourselves to come in and do the work, just work hard and keep our head down. I think that’s what really helped us and prepared so well.” That also included a bit of time on the 7-on-7 circuit, working with DMV Ghost and Moco Ghost, but Sandy’s focus was on his technique. “Being more consistent. In the past, I’ve always been able to do it but being consistent with it, getting the job done every time and being more accurate. Working on the little things like form, drops.” That led to a season opening win over Einstein where he amassed over 200 passing yards and five touchdowns while completing nearly 80% of his passes. “The season opener, I just felt loose. I felt in my element. I wasn’t really thinking at all just doing the things I’ve worked on for the past four years. It just all clicked and it was smooth.” Sandy and Damascus will shift their attention to Northwest under the Friday night lights. “Do our jobs. If everyone does our own assignment, we’ll be fine. We need to prepare like it’s the last game we’ll play because it’s a big one.” Sandy will also make his way to Maryland for their home game against Charlotte on Saturday night.
