Maryland men’s basketball is nearly one month away from the season opener and with Big Ten media day around the corner, the preseason buzz continues for a pair of Maryland stars as both Jahmir Young and Julian Reese were recognized on Friday.
Jahmir Young and Julian Reese were two of ten players named to the preseason All-Big Ten team, the conference announced on Friday. Young was one of fout unanimous All-Big Ten selections, joining Terrence Shannon Jr. (Illinois), Zach Edey (Purdue) and Boo Buie (Northwestern), becoming the first unanimous selection for Maryland since Anthony Cowan did so in 2019.

This marks the first time that Maryland has recorded two preseason all-conference selections for the first time since 2019-20, and third time since 2015-16.
Friday’s announcement is also the latest honor for Young, who was also recently named the conference’s top point guard by Andy Katz. Young has also been named a preseason All-American by the Blue Ribbon and Lindy's Sports Magazines while checking in as the 35th-best player for the upcoming season by the Field of 68 Almanac.
Young was an integral part of Maryland’s success in year one under head coach Kevin Willard as Young averaged a team-high 15.8 points per game en route to an All-Big Ten Second Team selection by both media and coaches.
Sophomore Julian Reese was also able to take a second-year jump under former assistant Grant Billmeier as he averaged 11.4 points per game and a team-high 7.2 rebounds on 63.2% shooting, the third-best single-season field goal percentage in program history.
Reese and Young join Maryland head coach Kevin Willard at Big Ten Media Days in Minneapolis for Tuesday, Oct. 10, while Maryland team media day is set for Tuesday, Oct. 17.
