Hamond twins announce commitments to Maryland, join 2025 class

Coming off Saturday’s comeback win vs. USC, Maryland has added two more commitments in the 2025 class as Calvert Hall (MD) duo Asaiah and Alijah Hamond have announced their long-awaited decisions to head to College Park and join head coach Mike Locksley’s class.

Both Asaiah and Alijah visited Maryland for the USC game over the weekend before making their commitments official on Monday afternoon. They join Calvert Hall TE JT Taggart in Maryland’s 2025 class as the two have been Maryland leans since their official visit to campus back on June 13-15.

“The players,” Alijah told IBG about why Maryland stuck out. “As soon as I got on campus, even on my official visit, the players came up to me like Brandon Jacob, Daniel Owens.”

Saturday marked their first visit to Maryland this season as they took in postgame celebrations alongside the rest of the visiting prospects and fans.

“I liked the atmosphere. It was homecoming so it was a big game. It was a great game, actually. I felt like it was a winning environment especially coming off a win like that,” Asaiah added.

The Hamond twins will team up with high school teammate, TE JT Taggart, who committed to Maryland back in June following his official visit. Alijah joins the class as a safety pledge alongside four-star Messiah Delhomme as assistant Zac Spavital has been able to build their relationship through 2024. “I feel like I fit situations. I can be a run stopper, step up and get a blitz. I fit the system because there’s a whole bunch of levels to it and I can play inside the box a little bit.”

At 6-foot-8, Asaiah has emerged as a two-way target with his frame making him an intriguing offensive tackle prospect, along with becoming a potential interior defensive lineman at the next level. Assistants Brian Williams and Damian Wroblewski have led the way with Williams mainly driving contact since Maryland offered during their unofficial visit back on April 2. Asaiah drew interest from several Power Four schools including Clemson and Virginia Tech, while Pitt, West Virginia, Boston College and South Carolina were among the schools in pursuit.

As the two are expected to enroll in the program in June of 2025, the chance for the twins to play alongside each other looms large with the opportunity to also team up with Taggart in college is the cherry on top.

“That’s even more fun because I’ve got my homeboy and my brother there,” Alijah said.

While Alijah is not yet rated, Asaiah is rated a three-star and 86 overall by On3. Maryland is now up to 23 commitments in the 2025 cycle.
