Maryland has announced Grant Billmeier as the third and final assistant on new head coach Kevin Willard’s staff.

Billmeier, 37, joins Tony Skinn and David Cox as assistants under Willard and joins the program after six consecutive seasons at Seton Hall. Billmeier, a Seton Hall alum, first joined Kevin Willard on the Seton Hall staff as the coordinator of basketball operations back in 2010 before being elevated to director of basketball ops in 2013-2014. Billmeier then went to Fairleigh Dickinson as an assistant coach during the 2014-15 season, but returned to Seton Hall the next season as Willard’s right-hand man.

“I am excited that Grant will be joining us at Maryland,” said Willard. “I have known and worked with Grant for many years. He has a championship background and experience in developing some of the most skilled big men in the country. He has strong recruiting connections in the Northeast and nationally and will help bring some of the best talent to College Park. We welcome, Grant and his family to Maryland.”

While Skinn joins the program with a reputation for developing guards, Billmeier joins the program with a reputation for developing big men and was instrumental in former Seton Hall star Angel Delgado. During the 2017-18 season, Delgado led the nation with 13.1 rebounds per game and was named All-America honorable mention, the Metropolitan Player of the Year and unanimous All-Big East. Billmeier also helped develop Romaro Gill finish third in the nation in blocks per game as a junior, while playing a hand in recruiting and developing current Milwaukee Bucks forward Sando Mamukelashvili.

“Continuing to work alongside Coach Willard is very special to me,” said Billmeier. “We have won together and built a winning culture together. Being able to do that at Maryland is something I am very excited about. I can’t wait to get started recruiting the newest Terps and helping the players develop into some of the best in the Big Ten and the country.”

As a player, Billmeier was a two-year captain from 2003 to 2007 and helped Seton Hall reach the NCAA Tournament twice, including a first-round win over Arizona back in 2004. A Pennington, New Jersey native, Billmeier played professionally in Germany and Portugal and previously coached as an assistant at St. Patrick High School, his alma mater.

Maryland is also expected to retain Greg Manning Jr. as director of basketball operations.
