Georgia QB talks new Maryland offer following first visit to Maryland

2025 Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (GA) quarterback Gavin Owens made his way to College Park for the first time on Saturday night as the 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback stayed for the entirety of the Terps’ 38-20 win. Owens briefly saw head coach Mike Locksley but wasn’t able to connect much with him, but what the dual-threat quarterback did see was a balanced attack from the Terps’ offense. “Yesterday they threw the ball a lot, but they ran it pretty good. Just the way they fought coming out of the second half. Early on in the game, down 14-0, they stepped it up. Offense stepped up, defense and just came back and won.” https://twitter.com/gavinowens06/status/1700636570716430771 Owens staying in College Park through the fourth quarter gave him a chance to sit down with the coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Josh Gattis. That’s when Maryland pulled the trigger on an offer. “I talked to the offensive coordinator and a little bit with the recruiting assistants, so it was pretty good,” Owens told IBG. “Gattis and I talked one-on-one in the team room, just me and him and my dad. He’s a cool dude. Like he told me, he’s all about relationships and that really stood out to me. When it comes down to my decision, that’s what it’s going to be on, who I have that tightest relationship with and that’s what really matters.” Maryland joined Charlotte, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, Louisville and Florida A&M early in the mix, but after picking up the offer on his first visit to College Park, Owens knows it won’t be the last time at Maryland. “I’ll definitely be back.” Owens is set to visit West Virginia this weekend “and then I’ll swing by to Virginia Tech.” As a sophomore, Owens threw for over 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns for Wren Gavin Owens is not yet rated by On3.
