St. John’s (DC) four-star Tariq Hayer is shifting his attention to his June official visit schedule with four schools in line to host the 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback starting in two weekends. Cincinnati the first school up for an official visit beginning the weekend of May 31 followed by Rutgers (June 7), Michigan State (June 14) and Maryland (June 21). Hayer was set to make his commitment back in December with Maryland and Wisconsin jockeying for position before the four-star opted to delay, giving Maryland's new defensive staff a chance to shake up the leaderboard. Since then, the presence of Aazaar Abdul-Rahim, along with the consistency from Brian Williams recruiting the Cadets, has positioned the Terps as a top contender in the race. Hayer was back on campus in the spring for a practice as head coach Mike Locksley has gotten involved in his recruitment. “It’s the hometown, home team. I gotta look at them. Coach Aazaar is real cool. I mess with coach Locksley. I went to one practice but it was like an open practice. I feel like I can get some playing time up there,” Hayer added. What’s been the message from Locksley? “Stay home.” Cincinnati has been involved through Hayer’s junior season, while Rutgers hosted Hayer for a visit back in late April for their spring game. The Spartans hosted Hayer in early April and have hit the DMV under the new coaching staff with assistant Demetrice Martin leading the way. There’s a chance that others jump into the official visit schedule. “Auburn, Miami (FL) or Michigan. Michigan has been on my line but they haven’t offered me,” Hayer told IBG. The four-star cornerback added he plans to make his commitment on July 1. Tariq Hayer is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, while being ranked the second-best prospect in DC in the 2025 cycle.
