Four-star running back Iverson Howard talks top ten, Maryland's pursuit

Quince Orchard (MD) running back Iverson Howard took the next step in his recruitment on Friday as Florida, Maryland, Miami (FL), Michigan, NC State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin made the top group for the four-star prospect. "I feel like I'm locked in with all ten of those schools. They've been keeping consistent with me the most so just trimming down and focusing on them now," Howard told IBG. https://twitter.com/IversonHoward2/status/1743377297577525747 The 5-foot-10, 180-pound running back took a pair of visits this fall, first to Maryland when they hosted Virginia then to Penn State when they hosted Michigan. With Howard playing with 480Club on the 7-on-7 circuit later this month, there's a chance he will check out Florida while down in Tampa for the Pylon Tournament. Meanwhile, one new Big Ten school has ramped up its recent interest. "I started talking to Oregon. When they first offered we didn't talk for a while, but they've started hitting me up every day now." "I want to get to the rest of the schools in the summer," Howard said about his visit schedule. Maryland has long been in pursuit of the local four-star with outside linebacker coach James Thomas leading the chase throughout while running backs coach Latrell Scott has steadily built their relationship over the last year. After losing a pair of running backs to the transfer portal and Roman Hemby entering 2024 with NFL aspirations, the Terps won't have to go far to find another running back in the 2025 cycle between Howard and DeMatha (MD) three-star Bud Coombs. Howard has watched how the Terps' running backs have rotated in Mike Locksley's offense. "Everything's been going good with them. When coach Brooks was there, we had a strong relationship going and he introduced me to the whole staff. I've been able to keep a good relationship with them. Me and coach Scott have been talking for a while. I'm going to get up there real soon. I've been talking to coach JT for a long time, too. They've had a couple young guys playing this year. That's a big impact on my recruiting because I can be one of those young guys stepping in." What's the biggest question Howard is looking to have answered? "One thing I'm looking into is really how I'll be developed on and off the field and then are they going to have a great line when I come in?" With official visits in the cards, Howard added that he'll "probably be committing some time in the summer, before the season." Iverson Howard is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the 199th-best prospect in the country. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0cWjJJ5H0hFJi1N2PoJFsk?si=536fb73aee6e4790 Related Links Everything Kevin Willard said after Maryland's loss vs. MinnesotaMaryland runs out of gas late, falls at Minnesota, 65-62Four-star CB Jett White announces commitment to MarylandMaryland signee talks dominant wrestling season, development plansTaulia Tagovailoa sheds light on grounds for reinstatement waiverVIP: impact of expected local hire, ’25 targets to watch, portal note (+)
