Four-star guard Trent Perry locks in official visit to Maryland

Head coach Buzz Williams and Maryland men’s basketball are days removed from dipping back into Texas to snag their first 2026 commit in Lufkin (TX) three-star Austin Brown, and they’ll look to add another target the coaches have established a close relationship with even before arriving in College Park

2026 Link Academy (TX) four-star guard Trent Perry confirmed to IBG he will officially visit Maryland beginning July 29.

Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and SMU are among the other schools involved as Perry also has official visits set to Texas A&M in August and TCU in September, while he told On3’s Joe Tipton that Penn State, Sacramento State and Oklahoma State are also in the mix for visits.

Assistant Lyle Wolf has spearheaded efforts with Perry, who has already visited Texas A&M when Buzz and his staff were still with the Aggies. After distance proved to not deter Brown from jumping into the fold thanks to his strong ties to the staff, Perry is now set to get his first look at College Park where his relationships with the staff has cemented Maryland as a contender.

“I have a good relationship so I definitely think they’re the number one visit I’m trying to set up right now to just see the campus and the area around it,” Perry previously told IBG. “Me and coach [Lyle] Wolf have been talking about it for a while. We don’t have a date set but we’ve been talking about it because he’s said he needs to get me up there. They’ve just always done a really good job keeping up with me so it’s been a really comfortable relationship. Coach Buzz is really respected by his players so I just want to check them out.”

“I heard it’s a really big basketball environment so I want to just see that environment because the schools I’ve visited, like the SEC, they’re more football schools so it’s still kind of my first basketball school so I’m just excited to see that,” he added.

Trent Perry is rated a four-star and 90 overall by On3, checking in as the 104th-best prospect in the country.
