Maryland men’s basketball will host another official visitor beginning Tuesday when Texas four-star guard Trent Perry makes his way to College Park for his first visit to campus, but the staff made the cut for another backcourt target with Wasatch Academy (UT) four-star Junior County trimming his list of suitors.
County, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound point guard, included Maryland in his top group alongside Arizona, Indiana, Purdue and UConn. County was among the first batch of 2026 target who had their offers reaffirmed by Buzz Williams and his staff once they arrived at Maryland, building on a relationship that assistant Lyle Wolf has spearheaded and began during Williams’ time at Texas A&M. County took an official visit to College Station during his junior season as an official visit to Maryland remains expected heading into the fall.
“Coach Lyle Wolf went with Buzz [Williams] over to Maryland. I was in contact with him a lot and my official visit there was also amazing,” County said in April. “Me and my family got to talk to coach Buzz, and he’s just a great person and a great coach to talk to. [He told me] just to keep working and keep doing me because all of the work I put in it will show itself when the time comes.”
County is one of several point guard targets for the new Maryland staff with local four-star Anthony Brown now set to officially visit Maryland beginning Oct. 4, while IMG Academy (FL) four-star Trey Beamer quickly set a September official visit just hours after picking up an offer. Maryland is also among the schools involved with Bishop O'Connell (DC) four-star Darius Bivins, though USF is the lone school with an official visit set.
County averaged over 13 points, five rebounds and nearly three assists per game during Peach Jam, one month after averaging 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 64.3% at the NBPA Top 100 camp back in June.
The four-star is tentatively expected to make his decision in October ahead of his senior season.
“I think I’m going to commit in October as of right now,” County told Zagsblog. “That’s my plan. I’m not sure when in October, but it’ll probably be mid-October.”
