With day two of the second official visit weekend wrapping up, Maryland football now has its tenth pledge of the 2027 class, including the first flip pledge of the cycle.
UNC commit and IMG Academy (Fl.) three-star Charles 'Chuck' Roberts has flipped his commitment from the Tar Heels to Maryland.
Roberts, a 6-foot, 180-pound safety, arrived for his official visit on June 4 with assistant James Thomas spearheading efforts. It was Thomas who extended the offer midway through his junior season before visiting the defensive back at his school during the second bye week, but his commitment to North Carolina materialized shortly after. Roberts' strong relationship with Thomas led to the three-star becoming the second safety commit in as many official visit weekends, joining Texas three-star Kevin Jackson.
The flip also comes one week after Roberts returned to Chapel Hill for his official visit, while he becomes the latest commitment in the class who is expected to enroll in January.
Roberts finished with 50 tackles, three pass breakups, two sacks, and an interception while allowing just three catches as a junior.
The news came shortly after Maryland added a late addition to its 2026 class with North Stafford (Va.) defensive back Orlando Washington Jr., former teammate of top target and four-star safety Kenaz Sullivan, now set to enroll next weekend.
