Maryland men’s basketball is nearly 70 days away from kicking off the 2025-26 season, but head coach Buzz Williams has added another to the end of the coaching staff with a familiar face headed back to College Park.
Former Maryland and Virginia Tech guard Seth Allen has been announced by the program as the newest hire, joining newly-hired Jelani Spain as a grad assistant ahead of the 2025-26 season. Allen joins the program after serving as an assistant coach at Barry College in 2024, while he previously served as the offensive and defensive coordinator at Florida National.
The Woodbridge, VA native began his career at Maryland back in 2012-13 when he finished fourth on the team in scoring (7.8) and second in steals (36) while scoring in double figures in 13 games. Allen would miss 12 games in 2013-14 after fracturing his left foot, though still started in 15 of his 20 appearances and led the team in assists (3) and finished second in scoring (13.4).
But Allen would join a mass of outgoing departures following the 2013-14 season, landing at Virginia Tech where he suited up for head coach Buzz Williams and the Hokies before blossoming into an All-ACC selection. In Blacksburg, Allen averaged 14 points and was named to the All-ACC Tournament second team in 2016. As a redshirt senior, Allen was named the ACC Sixth Man of the Year and earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. He averaged 13.3 points per game on 53.4% shooting in his final season with the program, leading the Hokies into the ACC Tournament.
Following his college career, Allen spent three stints in the G League while playing overseas in Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, Finland, Germany and Greece.
Fast forward over ten years later, and it’s Allen who is filling the void as the alum in the program.
Maryland is set to open the season against Coppin State on Nov. 3.
