Maryland football’s Big Ten opener vs. Wisconsin on Sept. 20 will kickoff at noon ET on NBC, the Big Ten announced on Monday afternoon.
This marks the fifth meeting between the two teams and first since 2022 as Maryland looks for its first win in four tries in Madison and first win against the Badgers. This also marks the first of several conference games that fans will see a former Terp suit up against Maryland in 2025 with quarterback Billy Edwards Jr now in Madison. Edwards was previously named the starting quarterback in 2025 but suffered an injury in the season-opener, though initial reports pointed to the former Maryland starter as potentially returning this upcoming week when Wisconsin faces Alabama.
“I don’t believe that Billy (Edwards) will be playing,” Fickell said ahead of the week two matchup vs. Middle Tennessee. “He didn’t practice, so obviously Danny (O’Neil) would be the guy we would go with, and Hunter (Simmons) would be the backup, and we’d just proceed from there.”
Wisconsin is coming off wins against Miami (OH) and Middle Tennessee, winning by a combined score of 69-10, as they prepare to head to Tuscaloosa to complete the two-year home-and-home series.
Maryland, meanwhile, is coming off consecutive wins at home while holding Florida Atlantic and Northern Illinois to a combined 16 points as head coach Mike Locksley opens the season 2-0 for the fourth time in five years. Maryland is set to host Towson this upcoming weekend for a noon kickoff on Peacock to wrap up the 2025 non-conference slate as the Terps look for their 18th consecutive non-conference win.
