Former Maryland guard Jahmir Young agrees to deal with Denver Nuggets

Following the end of the 2024 NBA Draft, former Maryland guard Jahmir Young has agreed to an Exhibit-10 deal with the Denver Nuggets. Young will now look to secure one of the open two-way spots on the 2024-25 roster once summer league begins on July 12. Young was able to work out for several teams during the NBA Draft process, including the Kings, Warriors and Jazz among others, while he got a chance to impress scouts after flashing among the standouts at the Portsmouth Invitational back in April, tying for sixth in the league with 16.7 points per game while shooting nearly 49% from the field. Young was named to Reese’s NABC Division I All-Star Game in early April where he finished with six points and three turnovers in just over 22 minutes of action. Young will look to become the first player in the Kevin Willard era to find his way into the NBA, ending the chapter on an accomplished two-year career in College Park. “You couldn’t ask any more from one of your first recruits that you get," Willard said near the end of the 2023-24 regular season. "I think his work ethic is unbelievable. He’s a terrific teammate. He’s a great young man to be around. I couldn’t ask any more for what Jahmir has given to this program.” Young, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, was the catalyst for the Terps on both ends of the court after averaging 18 points, 3.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds while starting in all 67 games available. Young led Maryland in points (652), three-pointers (56), field goals (199), assists (135) and steals (87) in 2023-24 while all three of his 30-point performances came on the road. Though his second season ended in Maryland's second losing season in three years, Young's spark as Willard's star point guard vaulted the Terps into the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23 as Maryland advanced to the round of 32. While Young left his mark on the court, Maryland fans will also remember him for becoming the first former DeMatha product to head to College Park since Travis Garrison did so in 2002. Maryland has since signed former Virginia Tech guard Rodney Rice, who shined with the Stags as a four-star prospect, as he joins a revamped backcourt in 2024-25.
