Maryland football made several changes official after announcing its updated coaching staff on Wednesday morning, adjusting titles for a handful of assistants while also bringing in former West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett and Maryland defensive lineman Randy Starks onto the 2026 staff. But there was also roster news that was officially confirmed on Wednesday morning.
One year after arriving in College Park, IBG has confirmed that redshirt freshman Dante Recker is no longer with the University of Maryland football program.
Recker committed to Maryland as part of the 2025 class where he arrived as a defensive lineman though spent spring ball working with the tight end room as a 6-foot-7, 245-pound raw athlete. He was one of only a few true freshmen to not play during the 2025 season.
A former three-star out of Avon Old Farms (CT), former defensive coordinator Brian Williams teamed up with former player-turned-assistant David Brownlee to add the athletic edge rusher as part of a foundational 2025 class for the program.
“They’re my number one for sure. I love everything about them,” Recker told IBG ahead of his official visit. “It’s Big Ten football. I do really love the coaches and that’s the main thing. They’re freaking awesome. Big Ten football doesn’t get much better than that and it’s a pretty good education.”
Maryland will return several experienced pieces with Zahir Mathis and Sidney Stewart now set to join Zion Elee in College Park alongside a deep, deep room of interior linemen anchored by returning veteran Lavon Johnson and sophomore Bryce Jenkins.
