Maryland didn’t have to wait long before landing the second commitment of the 2026 class as Mandarin (FL) defensive lineman Brian Harris went public with his decision.
Harris, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound lineman, had the Terps in the lead with an offer from Duke along with interest from Florida State, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and NC State.
“I think [Brian Williams], since my coach is his brother, it’s a good relationship. He keeps it real with me. When I went on my unofficial they put me in the meeting room, sat me down, and he was coaching me up like I was one of their players. His coaching style and my way of playing, it matches. It’s a very, very strong bond. Maryland is a great school,” Harris told IBG earlier this week.
Harris joins the class as an interior defensive line prospect after sitting in a position meeting led by assistant Lance Thompson in the spring.
“When I first met him in person, it was during practice, I just saw him walking so I shook his hand. Then when I was at Maryland, it was a great experience. I loved his energy,” Harris said in the spring. “The way he coaches, his knowledge of the game is unbelievable honestly. I was in the defensive line meeting, seeing the comradery with the teammates made me understand he’s a main source of their energy. Just the way he coaches, I learned a lot from him when I was there. I had a chance to sit with coach Locks and coach [Lance] Thompson. Coach Locks is another outstanding coach, he has a lot of experience too.”
Harris becomes the second pledge of the class after St. Frances (MD) defensive back Khmari Bing went public on Monday. He is not yet rated by On3.
