Buzz Williams, Maryland men's basketball land first transfer portal commit

Maryland men's basketball has its first transfer portal commitment of the offseason to restock the frontcourt.

Former New Mexico forward Tomislav Buljan has announced his transfer to Maryland for his final season of college basketball.

Buljan, a 6-foot-9, 23 year old fresh off his first college basektball season where he averaged 13.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting 54% from the field. His 4.03 offensive rebounds per game also ranked sixth in the country as Buljan became one of 14 players nationally to average a double-double. He also notched four games with 15 or more rebounds and a double-double in ten games, setting a program record by a freshman,

He gives Maryland a big boost in the frontcourt alongside Pharrel Payne, who remains expected to return to College Park in 2025-26 though an official announcement remains contingent on an NCAA waiver being approved.

Buljan played professionally prior to arriving at New Mexico, suiting up for KK Cedevita Junior in 2024-25 where he averaged 12.5 points and 8.8 rebounds to lead to league in rebounding. He also posted a triple double that season with 18 points, 20 rebounds, 12 assists and seven steals, while Buljan also played on Croatia's U-20 national team.

The news comes after head coach Buzz Williams saw four departures with Isaiah Watts becoming the latest to depart alongside Aleks Alston, Jaziah Harper and Nick Blake. Maryland also saw Elijah Saunders, Collin Metcalf, Solomon Washington and Diggy Coit exhaust their eligibility.
