Buzz Williams, Maryland basketball staff goes four-deep for four-star Sebastian Wilkins with final stage in recruitment approaching

Maryland men’s basketball has a pair of 2025 commits already in the fold with Guillermo Del Pino already signed, but head coach Buzz Williams and the Terps’ staff have remained in the top group for Brewster Academy (NH) four-star Sebastian Wilkins with all eyes on when the forward would make a decision.

With coaches on the road for the first live period of the summer this weekend, Maryland went four-deep to see Wilkins beginning on Friday with Williams among the staffers in attendance. Head coaches from both Duke and Virginia were also in attendance to watch Wilkins at the Adidas 3SSB in Omaha as Wilkins posted 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists in a win vs. Power 5 in an 86-83 win on Friday night.

But the biggest question is what the timeline for Wilkins materializes into. Maryland has 11 scholarships filled with a new 2025 target in Jaziah Harper materializing into a potential visit as early as this upcoming week. Duke, meanwhile, is now trending for Italian guard Dame Sarr though portal forward Cedric Coward could now opt to stay in the NBA Draft instead of follow through on his transfer from Washington State to Duke. The Blue Devils also hosted top-50 prospect Braydon Hawthorne for an official visit in early May with Wilkins still a top target for Scheyer and the Blue Devils, while Virginia threw their hat into the ring with an offer back on May 2.

The other question is whether Wilkins opts to remain in the 2026 class or reclassify into the 2025 class, and with teams beginning to report to campus in early June, the four-star could now be closing in on the final stage of his recruitment with Maryland and Duke battling it out.

Maryland has remained a top contender thanks new assistant Wabissa Bede’s deep ties, thanks to his playing days with Mass Rivals, while head coach Buzz Williams has remained an active part in the pursuit.

“I liked [the visit] a lot. I’ve grown a relationship with coach Buzz and the staff for a while now. So just learning a little bit about Maryland and seeing the campus — it was nice," Wilkins told Zagsblog this weekend. "I really enjoyed seeing the arena they play in, the XFINITY Center. And just learning about some of their history and the players who played for the program.”

Wilkins is rated a four-star and 93 overall, checking in as the 56th-best prospect in the nation.
