After weekend visit, top-ten 2028 prospect returning for second visit to Maryland football

The last six months has given Lackey (MD) defensive lineman Tyzon Swann, a top ten prospect in the 2028 class, a chance to take in several new suitors with the 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospect one week removed from his first visit to Auburn while he’ll head to Florida this upcoming weekend. But after initially planning to visit Texas A&M this weekend, Swann opted to stay closer to home and make the 45 minute drive up to College Park where his latest visit to Maryland football emphasized what he likes most about the hometown program.

“I got to talk to coach Locks for a minute. Cool guy, funny guy. Every time I go up there, I feel the love. Got to chill in the locker room with the players a little bit, got to talk to Zion [Elee]. I feel like he’s going to make a big impact because the coaches play freshmen,” Swann told IBG. “I haven’t been up there in a minute so it was good getting up there and talking with them a couple of minutes. He was telling me he’s trying to win a national championship and he wants me to be a part of that. But he was also giving me advice, like real world advice, how I have two years left and he’s just a great guy. He wants me to grow and be successful.”

But Saturday’s visit also gave the four-star a chance to spend one-on-one time with Randy Starks, Maryland’s new defensive line coach.

“He went to Westlake and actually taught at my school. Got to talk to him, chop it up a little bit, asked him how he likes it up there and how he got there. He was telling me about his high school career and how he did at Maryland. He was saying they didn’t have all of this when he was here, but it’s great people, great environment. He was really letting me know he loves it up there.”

While it’s plenty early and the competition will be stiff with several SEC and Big Ten schools chasing, Swann knows that his relationships with the Terps’ staff is second-to-none.

“It’s home. There’s no place like home. Every time I go up there, I never had a different feeling. The love is the same, the scenery. They really care. They really care about me so much more than any other school. I feel like I’ve got a great relationship with everybody so that stands out, their relationship with me.”

Prior to heading to Florida on Friday, Swann added he plans to return to Maryland for Thursday’s spring practice.
