After two close wins, Shell Shock set for Round of 16 matchup in TBT Tournament

After holding on in their first two games, Shell Shock TBT is set to suit up in the Round of 16 on Tuesday evening when they take on Nxt Era Elite at 7 PM.

Next Era Elite coasted through their first two games after taking down Raleigh 919 Legends and Founding Fathers by a combined 44 points. Former St. Thomas forward Ahmad Gilbert leads the way, averaging 20.5 through two games, while Tuesday’s matchup will also give fans a familiar face lining up opposite of Maryland’s official team with former Maryland center Chol Marial, who is averaging six points and 8.5 rebounds through two games, set to suit up.

Shell Shock, meanwhile, saw double-digit leads vanish in each of their first two games. Ronald March’s game-winning free throws were enough to take down Love Virginia, 75-74, on Friday before Darryl Morsell stepped up for the game-winning bucket to defeat Red Rose Thunder, 81-78. Morsell also nearly put together a triple double after adding 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in Sunday’s win while Diamond Stone exploded for 23 points 28 minutes while shooting over 53% from the field.

The biggest question for Maryland’s TBT team has been the availability of the guards with Melo Trimble, Eric Ayala and Terrell Stoglin unavailable through the first two games. Executive director and former assistant Nima Omidvar announced this weekend that Ayala will is unavailable and has returned home “to get proper treatment” as Maryland looks to lean on Morsell and March once again.

The winner is set to take on the winner between top-seed Elite Nation vs. Best Virginia at 9 PM on Sunday, July 27.
