Maryland football is set to take the podium at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas today with head coach Mike Locksley joined by defensive back Jalen Huskey, linebacker Daniel Wingate and offensive lineman Isaiah Wright. Maryland is one of five schools set to appear on Tuesday alongside Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers.
Head coach Mike Locksley will take the podium for his press conference at 3:15 PM before returning to the BTN Studio Set at 7:30 PM EST. The three players in attendance will also take the BTN set at 5:30 PM EST.
After originally transferring into the program from Bowling Green, Huskey has emerged as the leader of what’s expected to be an improved secondary for Maryland in 2025. A Quince Orchard product, Huskey started in 11 games and appeared in 12 games as he totaled 45 tackles (21 solo), 2.5 TFLs, four passes defended, three interceptions, one blocked kick and one fumble recovery last season. Huskey posted a career-high tying 10 tackles at Oregon and his interceptions came against Michigan State, Virginia and Indiana. Daniel Wingate has been an impact player since stepping foot on campus in 2023 and after playing in the rotation alongside new Bears LB Ruben Hyppolite, the former three-star recruit is ready to blossom into the leader of the front seven. A St. Vincent Pallotti product, Wingate has played in 23 games for the Terps through his freshman and sophomore seasons. He ranked third on the team with 50 tackles in 2024, while he tied for third on the squad with 6.5 TFLs. Wingate recorded a career-high seven tackles and career-high 2.0 TFLs against Rutgers and he logged six tackles at Oregon.
After missing the 2024 season due to an season-ending injury suffered during offseason workouts, Isaiah Wright is back and expected to be a big part of the solution along the offensive line in 2025. Wright joined the Terps after starting 24 games on Buffalo's offensive line for two seasons. In 2023, Wright started 11 games for the Bulls, including five at left tackle and six at center. The versatile lineman helped Buffalo tie for third in the MAC in fewest sacks allowed that season and heading into the first of potentially two seasons with the program, Wright is expected to lock down a starting guard position likely on the left side of the line.
