After Trio of Visits, Maryland Holds Edge for Top-100 Prospect

Maryland rolled out the red carpet for top-100 prospect Shaleak Knotts this weekend as he made it back to College Park for his second visit in June. This time marked his official visit though, an important weekend because it was the first time Knotts’s family has visited College Park.

“It was fun. I brought my family up this time so they enjoyed it,” he told Inside the Black and Gold. “I basically just had all the coaches around. It was more for my parents, see what they think and how they want to use me and things like that.” What did his mom think of the trip? “She loved it. Just everything, she was really happy just seeing everything.”

Wide receiver Rakim Jarrett hosted Knotts this weekend as the two were able to talk about Locksley’s coaching style and why Maryland. “He just felt like it was home there,” Knotts added. Knotts was also able to spend time with wide receiver coach Zohn Burden going over his fit in the offense. “We went over the offense and was just telling me how they see me as an outside guy for them. He just always keeps it real with me. Real good. “

Knotts also took in an official visit to Georgia and Tennessee before trekking to Maryland. Following his unofficial to Maryland, Knotts admitted he was looking forward to more trips to see how the Terps’ stack up among his top suitors. The Terps sit well with him, but the four-star admitted the facilities still stick out. “It’s for sure up there. Georgia, they’re stacked and they got a lot going on but Maryland’s is definitely up there.”

With three official visits in the books, Knotts reiterated that Maryland is his leader.

“They’re still on top, the coaches and the plan they have for me. Just being around everybody, the coaches. Really just getting my family and making them happy, that was the highlight.” Head coach Mike Locksley has built a strong rapport with Knotts through the recruiting process as the two would connect weekly through the spring into summer. “That’s my dog,” Knotts added. Maryland made it clear to Knotts he’s the number one target on the receiver board, but he’s sticking to his commitment plan.

“They were telling me to commit but I just wanted to hold off for a minute.” Knotts still has two available official visits and plans to use both, one specifically to North Carolina. “I still got to set that up but it should be soon though.”

Knotts is planning to make his commitment by August and will release his top three on Tuesday.

Knotts is rated a four-star prospect and a 94 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the nation’s 91st-best prospect and 12th-best wide receiver.
