Less than 24 hours after wrapping up the second official visit weekend, Maryland football has landed its 11th pledge of the cycle and first from the latest batch of visitors.
Bartlett three-star Shelvy 'Duke' Clark, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound inside linebacker, committed to Maryland over Colorado with other Power Fours like Indiana extended offers through the process.
Defensive backs assistant Nick Newsome spearheaded the way for Maryland with Clark high on the NFL experience on the defensive staff throughout the spring and ahead of his first visit. With redshirt freshman Travares Daniels serving as the player host, Clark arrived for his official visit on Thursday, June 4 and privately announced on Friday before going public on Sunday morning.
“[Monachino’s] base front is amazing. His schemes are wonderful. And I feel like to me, it puts linebackers in positions to make plays,” Clark said. “They mentioned that I have the potential to work my way to be a starter.”
Clark planned to officially visit Western Kentucky next weekend, but those plans are now scrapped, while Colorado was expected to round out the official visits at the end of the month but those plans are also scrapped.
As a junior, Clark registered 139 total tackles, 87 solo, 18 TFLs and eight sacks and was named to the state's 6A All-Defense team.
