'25 in-state safety Julien Horton commits to Maryland

Maryland has picked up its fifth commitment in the 2025 cycle as Bel Air (MD) safety Julien Horton. Co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim led the way with Horton, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound safety for Maryland. "I had a great conversation with my father and one of the coaches and that was a big deciding factor," he told IBG after his decision. "I've been touring the campus and been on campus since I was a freshman so I'm very familiar with the place. I have family there too." That connection is senior running back Colby McDonald, who is Horton's cousin. Still, the connection between he and Aazaar Abdul-Rahim loomed large as the Terps have long felt at home for the in-state target. "Mainly the coaching staff. There's a lot of people in the building who looks like me too and the support staff they have. And obviously they're in the Big Ten so me going against great programs like Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan, it's a great way for me to prove myself at the next level." Horton initially had an official visit set to Minnesota and had visits planned to Duke, USC and Penn State while North Carolina was in line to host the in-state safety at the next level. Still, Horton opted to shut down his recruitment where he heads to College Park as a versatile safety in the Terps' defensive back room. "My versatility, I can play a couple different positions which I talked with coach Aazaar about. He wants to try me at corner, nickel and free safety. I think with my speed and versatility I can play all those spots." Horton added he will make his way to campus on Monday to make his commitment official with the staff. Julien Horton is not yet ranked by On3. Related Links
