Pair of local lineman eyeing Maryland visits heading into June

The offensive line remains a primary focus for Maryland in their 2024 class as the staff remains in the mix for a pair of targets heading into June.

Loyola Blakefield (MD) three-star offensive tackle Trevor Szymanski has wrapped up track and has shifted his attention to a trio of schools for visits: Maryland, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

“I’m going to Pitt 1-3,” Szymanski told IBG.

Maryland offensive line coach Brian Braswell visited Loyola Blakefield two weeks ago as he and Szymanski continue to build on their strong relationship. “I like him a lot. He’s a really good coach. Me and him are really close. I’ve already talked to coach Braswell about questions that I had and all of that.”

While Szymanski, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound interior lineman, still works out a date to schedule his official visit to Maryland, one more school he’s hoping to get to is Syracuse. “I like Syracuse a lot. They’ve done a good job recruiting me.”

Szymanski is hoping to decide in late June, but it may be a bit longer for Pallotti (MD) three-star tackle Ryan Howerton.

Howerton, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound tackle, has a pair of official visits set.

“I’m going to West Virginia on the 9^th,, Pitt on the 23^rd,” he told IBG.

Howerton has a few more schools chasing him.

“Virginia Tech wants me to come down, I’m still trying to set one up with Maryland. Ohio State has been talking about getting me down for an official too.”

Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson has taken over as the area recruiter and made the trip to Laurel to check on Howerton and four-star linebacker Gabe Williams. “I talked to coach Bras a couple of days ago. Everything is going well with them. Definitely need to get there before I decide.”

The Buckeyes showed interest at the end of Howerton’s junior season and have picked up their efforts heading into the summer with position coach Justin Frye leading the way. “After the regular season, around junior days when they started having guys on campus, I started hearing a lot more from them. I got to go over for their spring game. It was crazy. I didn’t think it was going to be that packed.”

Howerton will look to decide ahead of his senior season.
