One of the fastest players along the East Coast resides in Baltimore as 2025 Mervo (MD) wide receiver Justin De’Vaughn makes a name for himself on the gridiron. The 6-foot, 165 speedster was named to the 4A/3A all-region team after reeling in the game-winning touchdown against North Point in the state championship. But it’s his track success that first put him on the radar of college coaches.
“It’s everyone in the family. My mom and dad ran track in high school, college. All my siblings run track,” De’Vaughn told IBG.
The Baltimore product posted 22’11” in the long jump and 13.95 in the 110-meter as a sophomore, while he posted a 7.51 in the 55-meter during this year’s indoor track to provide credence to his blazing speed. Getting the chance to put it all together on the field has led to an uptick in his recruitment.
“My grades look good and I’m doing how I wanted to do in sports, so I feel like it was the type of year I wanted,” he added.
Nebraska was the first offer for the 6-foot, 160-pound wideout back in late October while Syracuse and Minnesota have jumped in since. While contact about an offer has largely been through De’Vaughn’s coach, Maryland has remained in steady contact with wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer leading the way.
“I’ve been talking to him lately, constantly honestly. Just checking up on me, he’s been up to the school and talked to my dad, my coaches and getting to know me. We’ve been able to build a relationship already.”
De’Vaughn is planning to get to Coastal Carolina on February 3, but a spring visit to Maryland is in play as he’s high on the local team despite only interest thus far.
“I’ve been letting him know my schedule, what I have planned because he wants me to come down to campus, see the facilities and check everything out. I’m definitely interested. They’re definitely in my top group.”
